JAMMU, AUGUST 17: The Jammu is a Union Territory now after the abrogation of Article 370, the status of Jammu and Kashmir as a State was reduced to a mere Union Territory and was placed directly under the control of Union Government.
It is imperative to understand that pre 370 era, the State was having only a matrimonial court which looked into the matters pertaining to the J&K Hindu Marriage Act but post 370, the Central Family Court Act was made applicable to Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and thus under this law the Family Courts were created which now governs all sorts of family matters like Marriage, Divorce, Maintenance of women, children and parents, child custody and so on so forth. It is also noteworthy that the family disputes are rising day in and day out and these Courts are likely to be overburdened in the near future and their numbers might have to be increased by the Government to neutralize the burden of the family Courts.
