Ramgarh(Jharkhand) : Though she is busy preparing for the Tokyo Olympics, but Asian Games archery silver medallist, Madhumita Kumari will take time out to appeal to the people of Ramgarh district to turn up in large numbers and exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls.

“Madhumita Kumari will soon start voter awareness campaign as Ramgarh district sports ambassador,” said Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Rajeshwari B.

The archer hails from Ramgarh district which falls under Hazaribagh Lok Sabha constituency.

Kumari told PTI over phone Wednesday that she would take time out from her busy practice schedule to appeal to the people of the district to turn up in huge numbers and cast their votes on May 6 when Hazaribagh Lok Sabha constituency goes for polls.

“I would like to appeal to the voters, especially the youth, to exercise their franchise, which is their democratic duty,” Kumari said.

Of the total 872 polling booths in Ramgarh district, 20 booths had a low voter turnout of less than 50 per cent, the DEO said, adding the objective is to take the voting percentage to 60 per cent this time.

Jharkhand has 14 Lok Sabha seats and the state will witness polling in four phases starting from April 29.
