Government of India has recently issued an updated order to ensure that quality steel is produced and consumed in the country.Theorder namely, Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2018 covers 53 products (47 carbon and alloy steel and 6 stainless steel products) where 16 new standards were included.
TheQuality Control Order prohibits manufacturing, import, sale, hire and lease of such products unless it conforms to relevant standards. The surveillance mechanism for ensuring the Quality Control Order lies under the BIS Act, 2016 with Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS). BIS continuously monitors to ensure that no sub-standard steel is manufactured, imported and sold in the country.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Steel, Vishnu Deo Sai, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
