Thane, Aug 23: An assistant inspector attached to Kolsewadi police station in the district was arrested on Friday for taking Rs 1,000 bribe, an Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said.
The accused officer, Sandeep Borade (34), had earlier accepted Rs 9,000 from the complainant, against whom a non- cognisable offence had been registered with Kolsewadi police station, the official said.
“Borade had demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant for not initiating any action against him. However, the bribe amount was later settled at Rs 10,000,” Mahesh Patil, Superintendent of Police, ACB (Thane), said in a statement.
“Accordingly, the complainant paid the first instalment of Rs 9,000 to Borade. Thereafter, he approached the ACB,” he said.
Based on the complaint, officials of the anti-graft agency laid a trap at Kolsewadi police station on Friday morning and caught Borade accepting the remaining Rs 1,000 from the complainant.
He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and later arrested, it said.
