Female foeticide is one of the vices haunting our society and is deep in our roots irrespective of the fact of one is educated or uneducated. It is also a truth that despite having stringent laws enacted by the lawmakers of this country, we are failed to cope & create deterence in the minds of the culprits and this crime is being committed continously and unabated in our Indian society.
The Constitution of India very clearly inhibits gender bias or discrimination on ground of sex (Article 15) and further mandates that special laws if are required be made to prevent attrocities against the women and the children.
It is thinkable when we have laws to prevent the crime of female foeticide then why we are not able to control it. According to me the problem seems to lie some where else. It is also noticeable that when a female concieves a child, she just concieves it and carry it carefully till it is deliivered and during this intervening period there is no scope for her to know that whether she is carrying a male baby or the female baby and if it is so then how she or her family members gets this knowledge. Obviously, this knowledge is gained for a few buck from the corrupt medical doctors, who performed sex determination tests on such pregnant women for one reason or the other and then disclose sex which the law prohibits and ultimately this disclosure by the doctors assumes the shape of a heinous crime of female foeticide in our society which needs to be checked not only by the government but also by the society.
