PIB Chandigarh organizes Media Workshop ‘Vartalap’ today

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 22: Media is the eyes and ears for the Government as their reporting on Government plans and schemes plays a critical role in policy inputs which increase the effectiveness of Government schemes and plans. ADG, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chandigarh Shri Rajinder Chaudhry said this during his welcome address in a media workshop ‘Vartalap’ organized today by PIB, Chandigarh. He further said that ‘Vartalaps’ are an important medium for giving positive messages to the society about government programmes and schemes as it increases the interface between media and government. As a part of the ‘Vartalap’, sessions were held on topics like Tourism sector in Chandigarh, Lead Bank Methodology and Development Communication.

Stating that Chandigarh is bouncing back with a plethora of activities after Covid-19, Ms. Hargunjeet Kaur, Director, Tourism, Chandigarh Administration in her session spoke on 20 years Perspective Tourism Master Plan for Chandigarh. She informed the participants that the department under Chandigarh Administration has recently celebrated an iconic week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and a Film Festival is being planned in April. She encouraged the participants to highlight the unique aspects of the tourism sector through their medium. Speaking on the role of the digital medium for information dissemination she said traditional information channels are still relevant in the current digital world.

Lead Bank Manager, Punjab National Bank Shri Hari Singh Gumra briefed the participants about the Lead Bank Methodology for supporting Start-up India, Stand-Up India and other government schemes. He informed that Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) was announced as part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package in May, 2020 to provide Collateral free Automatic Loans for businesses, including MSMEs. He said various financial literacy camps are being organized in Chandigarh to create awareness on schemes like Atal Pension Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana etc.

Sh. Ashutosh Mishra, Dean and Prof. Chitkara University spoke on Role of Media in Development Communication. He said that communication is one of the important channels in increasing the pace of development. Positive stories highlighted by the media would help in bringing behavioural change in public at large resulting in its success, said Shri. Mishra. He illustrated various examples of positive reporting in the state of Chhattisgarh, Assam, Jharkhand, Bundelkhand region etc. which led to a positive behavioural change.

As a part of its media outreach activity, PIB Chandigarh is organizing media workshops ‘Vartalap’. Two workshops have already been held i.e. one at Una (Himachal Pradesh) and one at Jalandhar (Punjab). Two are scheduled to undertaken in Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) on 24th March and Palwal (Haryana) on 28th March.
