Amit echoes for Road Safety Measures during National Workshop at Pune

PUNE JUNE : Special Secretary, Transport Department with Additional Charge of J&K Road Safety Council, Amit Sharma, shared his varied perspectives on taking multi-utility measures towards maintaining Road Safety especially for safeguarding the interest of pedestrians and two-wheel riders.

Amit was speaking during a National Workshop on Road Safety organised by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in collaboration with Asian Institute of Transport Development at Pune yesterday which was attended by galaxy of stakeholders such as Subject Experts and Specialists, Bureaucrats, Technocrats, Engineers, Consultants, Joint Secretary MoRTH Abhay Damle, Director AITD Dr S.M Sarin, Chief Security Commissioner DMRC M.S Upadhye and others.

The Special Secretary Transport along with Motor Vehicle Inspectors Surinder Kumar and Vikas Srivats from Samba and Kathua districts respectively re[resented Jammu and Kashmir in the National Workshop.

Amit Sharma highlighted several issues like developing a habit of usage of halmets by both the pillion riders of two-wheelers, non-usage of flashy lights and deafening horns, usage of Intelligent Traffic Lighting Systems for automatic changing over timings of signals during peak and non-peak hours, installation of CCTV Cameras at all traffic signals and crossings, creation of dedicated tracks for two-wheelers and bicycles, installation of warning sensors, speed-guns and tracking systems for traffic rule violations. Amit vouched that there is an urgent need for redesigning big round-abouts in both capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar. He further mentioned that proper zebra crossings need to be made with special facilities for differently-abled persons.

At the culmination of National Workshop, the organisers assured that more such awareness and Brain Storming Workshops shall be organised by MoRTH in the near future. They also assured that a similar workshop shall be organised in J&K soon.
